Etsy Selling Fees in 2026: What Sellers Actually Pay
Most makers quote Etsy’s 6.5% transaction fee and stop there. That number is real — and incomplete.
Once you add listing renewals, payment processing, Offsite Ads, and the occasional reserve hold, the effective take-rate on a handmade order often lands closer to 11%–15% of gross (higher when Offsite Ads drive the sale). On thin craft margins, that can be the whole profit.
This guide breaks down Etsy selling fees in 2026 the way they show up on a statement — then compares the same order on Wabbus (0% marketplace commission; you pay card processing only).
How Etsy makes money (and what that costs you)
Etsy’s seller revenue model is a stack of small cuts, not one line item:
| Fee | What it is | Typical 2026 rate |
|---|---|---|
| Listing / renewal | Charged when you list, and again when multi-quantity listings auto-renew after a sale | $0.20 per listing event |
| Transaction fee | Taken on the full customer total, including shipping you charge | 6.5% |
| Payment processing | Card / payment handling on the order total | 3.0% + $0.25 (US) |
| Offsite Ads | Extra cut when a buyer arrives via Etsy’s offsite ads and purchases in the attribution window | 12%–15% of that order |
Each piece looks manageable alone. Together they are how Etsy monetizes your catalog — and why “platform fees” and “selling fees” searches spike for established shops.
Worked example: $50 item + $10 shipping
Assume a $50 handcrafted item and $10 shipping ($60 order total).
| Fee category | Etsy (with Offsite Ads on a share of sales) | Wabbus |
|---|---|---|
| Base transaction fee | $3.90 (6.5%) | $0.00 (0%) |
| Listing / renewal | $0.20 | $0.00 |
| Offsite Ads (illustrative on a portion of volume) | Can add 12%–15% on attributed orders | $0.00 |
| Payment processing | $2.05 (3% + $0.25) | ~$2.04 (2.9% + $0.30) |
| Typical processing-only vs stacked take | Often ~11%–15% of gross when ads + fees stack | ~3.4% processing only |
Without Offsite Ads on that single order, you’re still looking at listing + 6.5% + processing — already well above “just 6.5%.” With Offsite Ads in the mix on a meaningful share of sales, annual fee drag compounds quickly.
The Offsite Ads cliff
Many sellers underprice Offsite Ads until they cross the common ~$10,000 annual sales threshold, after which participation is typically required. At that point a 12%–15% cut on attributed orders is no longer optional marketing — it’s part of the fee stack.
If you are comparing Etsy pricing or Etsy platform fees across shops, always ask: what share of sales is Offsite Ads? A 6.5% headline rate with 20–30% of volume on Offsite Ads is a different business than a new shop with none.

Fees cut profit. Reserves cut cash flow.
Percentages show up on the statement. Payment reserves show up when you try to reorder materials.
Etsy can place a reserve with little warning. Sellers commonly report that a large share of each sale — sometimes up to about 75% — can sit for weeks (holds of up to around 45 days are widely discussed in seller communities). If you throw clay, cut fabric, or order lumber to fulfill, that pause is a scaling brake — not only the fee line.
When people search etsy selling fees, they often mean both problems: take-rate and trapped cash.
What “Etsy alternatives” should actually mean
Quitting Etsy overnight is rarely the move. Discovery still works for many handmade categories.
A practical alternative pattern:
- Keep Etsy for search and new buyers.
- Add a 0% commission channel for buyers you already reach (email, social, repeat customers) and for volume you want to keep more of.
- Compare statements quarterly: if fees, ads, and renewals take more than about 10% of revenue — or holds are delaying production — shift more volume to the lower-take channel.
That is what most makers mean when they search etsy alternatives: not a fantasy “delete Etsy” button, but a second door with clearer math.
What Wabbus changes
Wabbus is a maker marketplace with a different fee and payout shape:
- 0% marketplace commission — Stripe processing only (2.9% + $0.30).
- No listing or renewal fees — list without per-sale renewal nickels.
- Shorter payout cycle — funds are typically released a few days after delivery, not a multi-week escrow on every order.
- Maker-focused catalog — aimed at handmade and small-batch sellers.
Same $60 order example above: you keep the retail price minus standard card processing — not listing + transaction + optional Offsite Ads on top.
Next step
Pull last month’s Etsy statement. Add listing renewals, transaction fees, processing, and Offsite Ads. Divide by revenue. That percentage is your real selling fee.
If the number (or the holds) is slowing reorders, add a channel that keeps more of each sale — without abandoning Etsy on day one.
Fee examples are illustrative and can change. Always check Etsy’s and Wabbus’s current seller policies for your country and category.
